Twin Peaks: A Meridian Crossing

EXT. OUTSIDE THE DOUBLE R DINER - NIGHT

The classic TWIN PEAKS SIGN on the outside of the Double R Diner glows softly under the illumination of the moon.

INT. DOUBLE R DINER - NIGHT

The diner bustles with its usual patrons. The WAITRESS, carrying plates of pie, delivers the desserts to a table where COOPER, SHERIFF TRUMAN, ANDY, and HAWK sit.

WAITRESS
Here's our famous cherry pie and coffee.

COOPER
Thank you! There's nothing like the cherry pie here at the Double R, I absolutely love it.

SHERIFF TRUMAN
What's the update on the Mulbery case, Hawk?

HAWK
I went to talk to the old caretaker again, but he wasn't very cooperative. I've got a hunch that something's afoot.

ANDY
Maybe it has to do with that strange symbol we found.

COOPER
Yes, it certainly is an interesting finding.

The door opens, and AUDREY HORNE walks in, dressed for work.

AUDREY
Hello, boys.

COOPER
Ah, the lovely Audrey Horne. What brings you here?

AUDREY
Someone told me there's a meeting in town to discuss the recent events.

SHERIFF TRUMAN
Indeed. We're meeting at the town hall.

ANDY
You ought to be careful, Audrey. There's a lot of fear in the air.

AUDREY
I'm not scared, Andy. Fear doesn't suit me.

Audrey gives a sly smile.

EXT. TOWN HALL - NIGHT

The group enters the town hall which is set up for a town meeting. The MAYOR addresses the crowd.

MAYOR
Folks, we need to address the situation in our town. As you all are aware, we have a killer running amok.

The room erupts into fearful whispers.

MAYOR (CONT'D)
We need calm! FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper and our local law enforcement are actively investigating this case.

COOPER stands up and addresses the crowd.

COOPER
I want to assure you that we are doing everything in our power to bring the responsible party to justice.

The room is silent, focused on Cooper's words.

COOPER (CONT'D)
We ask that you remain vigilant and report any unusual activity.

INT. TOWN HALL - LATER THAT NIGHT

After the meeting, the room has emptied out, except for Cooper, Truman, Hawk, and Andy.

COOPER
We need to follow up on that symbol. I believe it holds a vital clue.

HAWK
It's got an eerie aura around it.

AS they continue to talk, A MYSTERIOUS FIGURE peers through a window, watching them. The figure catches Coopers attention.

COOPER
Hold on, did anyone else see that?

TRUMAN
What are you talking about, Cooper?

COOPER points at the window, but the figure has disappeared. Everyone looks confused.

COOPER
Nevermind. But I can't shake the feeling that something is watching us.

Twin Peaks: The Whispering Woods

INT. DOUBLE R DINER - DAY

SHERRIFF HARRY TRUMAN sits at the counter, sipping coffee. NORMA JENNINGS wipes a nearby table, looking out the window.

HARRY
How’s the cherry pie looking today, Norma?

NORMA
Still the best in the world, Harry. But there's something strange going on out in the woods this morning. Some locals claim to have heard whispers.

HARRY
(opens up newspaper)
I'll keep an ear out, as we all know Twin Peaks isn't safe from strangeness.

CUT TO:

EXT. TWIN PEAKS SHERIFF'S STATION - DAY

DEPUTY ANDY BRENNAN stands outside as AGENT DALE COOPER approaches him with a strange object in his hand.

COOPER
Deputy, take a look at this. I found it this morning – a small wooden owl carrying this piece of paper.

ANDY
(baffled)
What does it say, Agent Cooper?

COOPER
(frowns)
It says, “The owls are watching. The whispers are near. One must change course to uncover the truth.”

ANDY
That sounds ominous, Agent Cooper.

COOPER
Indeed, Deputy. Let’s talk to Sheriff Truman about this.

CUT TO:

INT. TWIN PEAKS SHERIFF'S STATION - DAY

Sheriff Truman, Agent Cooper, and Deputy Andy stand around a table, discussing the mysterious message.

HARRY
Cooper, another strange mystery in Twin Peaks. What are your thoughts?

COOPER
I believe the answer lies in the woods, as it usually does, Harry. Let's gather a team and investigate those whispers.

ANDY
(nods)
I'll get Hawk and Lucy. We'll meet you at the edge of the woods.

CUT TO:

EXT. EDGE OF THE WOODS - NIGHT

HARRY, COOPER, HAWK, ANDY, and LUCY stand at the tree line.

COOPER
(looking up at the sky)
The stars are guiding us tonight. Let's head into the forest and see what we can uncover.

HAWK
Be cautious. The woods carry secrets and can swallow you whole if you're not careful.

ANDY
(shaking)
I'm scared, Lucy.

LUCY
I am too, Andy, but with Agent Cooper leading us, we'll be just fine.

The team enters the woods, carefully treading through the darkness. Soon they hear the whispers, growing louder with each step.

Twin Peaks: The Shadow's Whisper

INT. DOUBLE R DINER - NIGHT

Shelly JOHNSON is behind the counter, wiping down the espresso machine. AGENT COOPER sits in his usual booth, waiting for his slice of cherry pie.

AGENT COOPER
(to Shelly)
There are few things in this world that can rival the anticipation of that first slice of cherry pie.

SHELLY
(laughs)

I'm glad it brings you joy, Agent Cooper.

Shelly brings Agent Cooper his cherry pie and coffee.

AGENT COOPER
(savoring the first bite)
Mmm, delicious as always, Shelly.

EXT. ROAD TO TWIN PEAKS SAW MILL - NIGHT

An eerie fog rolls in as a mysterious car approaches the mill. The CAR DRIVER is unseen. The car parks just outside the entrance.

INT. DOUBLE R DINER - NIGHT

DEPUTY HAWK walks in, wearing a grave expression.

DEPUTY HAWK
(salutes)

Agent Cooper, Sheriff Truman requests that you meet him at the Twin Peaks Saw Mill immediately.

AGENT COOPER
Is everything alright?

DEPUTY HAWK
Just a possible lead that's too pressing to wait.

AGENT COOPER
(leaving his pie behind)

Well, in that case, let's go, Hawk.

Agent Cooper gets up and leaves the pie, but asks Shelly to save it for him. The two exit the diner.

EXT. TWIN PEAKS SAW MILL - NIGHT

The fog thickens as Agent Cooper and Deputy Hawk arrive, meeting SHERIFF TRUMAN.

AGENT COOPER
Harry, what's the situation?

SHERIFF TRUMAN
We received an anonymous letter claiming that we'd find something important here at the mill. Seems like the sender had only our best interests at heart.

The three men start to search the area.

INT. TWIN PEAKS SAW MILL - NIGHT

Agent Cooper discovers a secret room in the mill. He hears whispers inside.

AGENT COOPER
Harry, Hawk, I've found something. Come here.

Sheriff Truman and Deputy Hawk join Agent Cooper. The room is dimly lit, revealing a RED CURTAIN.

SHERIFF TRUMAN
(incredulously)
A curtain?

A whispered, haunting voice emerges from behind the curtain.

WHISPERED VOICE
The shadow's whisper holds the truth. Beware the eye in the dark.

The curtains flutter, and a gust of wind sends leaves and papers flying. The men exchange bewildered glances.

AGENT COOPER
(serious)
This investigation is far from over, gentlemen. It seems Twin Peaks still holds many secrets that need to be uncovered.

The screen fades to black.

Twin Peaks: The Dreaming Man

INT. DOUBLE R DINER - DAY

Close up on a steaming cup of coffee. Sheriff TRUMAN, AGENT COOPER, HAWK, and ANDY enjoy their morning coffee.

COOPER
Isn't it just another tremendous day in Twin Peaks, gentlemen?

TRUMAN
Every day's a good day for coffee and pie, Coop.

ANDY
You said it, Sheriff.

HAWK
A wise man once said that the way of life should be centered on balance. There's something about this place that gives a sense of that balance.

COOPER
Agreed, Hawk.

As they sip on their coffee, SALLY, a distraught waitress, sobbingly interrupts them.

SALLY
Oh, Agent Cooper! There's... there's... something wrong with my husband, Pete!

TRUMAN
Why, Sally? What's wrong with Pete?

SALLY
He's started sleepwalking, but it's not like anything I've ever seen. He wanders around the woods at night, talking to himself. It's so creepy!

INT. SHERIFF'S STATION - DAY

The team arrives to investigate. Lucy hands them a file.

LUCY
Agent Cooper, I was checking the town's records on sleepwalkers, and I found this.

COOPER
Interesting. This seems to be a repeating occurrence in Twin Peaks, dating back as far as 1937. Truman, Hawk, Andy – let's keep our eyes peeled.

INT. GREAT NORTHERN HOTEL - DAY

AUDREY HORNE skims through the newspaper when she overhears BEN on the phone. He's talking to someone about a mysterious black box.

BEN
Yes, make sure it's taken care of ASAP! I don't want that thing in my hotel any longer than it needs to be.

AUDREY
Daddy? But what is it?

BEN
It's nothing for you to worry about. But be careful, these things can be dangerous.

INT. WOODS - NIGHT

Cooper, Truman, Hawk, and Andy stake out, looking for Pete. They spot him sleepwalking but behaving oddly.

COOPER
This doesn't seem like ordinary sleepwalking. Notice his eyes, how they're glazed over, but not entirely closed? It's as if he's in some sort of trance.

TRUMAN
What should we do?

HAWK
We follow him. See where he goes.

They follow Pete deep into the woods, where he finds the black box that Ben had mentioned earlier. He touches it, his eyes widen, and he starts screaming.

COOPER
(sipping coffee)
Harry, this is a damn fine cup of coffee.

TRUMAN
(slightly anxious)
Coop, we need to focus. We've just discovered a new clue linked to Laura Palmer's murder.

COOPER
(intently)
Alright, Harry. Fill me in on the details.

INT. SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT - DAY

As the investigation continues, receptionist LUCY MORAN clumsily bumps into Deputy HAWK carrying an awkwardly large pile of papers.

LUCY
(stuttering)
Oh, I'm so sorry, Hawk!

HAWK
(amused)
No problem, Lucy. I can always use a hand... or two.

INT. ROADHOUSE BAR - NIGHT

AUDREY HORNE, dressed seductively, enters the dimly lit bar. She spots the mysterious businessman, BENJAMIN HORNE, in the corner booth.

AUDREY
(coyly)
Hello, stranger.

BENJAMIN
(dismissive)
Audrey, not now.

She drops a torn piece of paper onto the table.

AUDREY
(defiant)
You'll want to see this, Ben.

INT. DOUBLE R DINER - NIGHT

Meanwhile, FBI Agent ALBERT ROSENFIELD confronts Big ED HURLEY and NADINE HURLEY.

ROSENFIELD
(sarcastically)
My, what a lovely couple we have here.

BIG ED
(defensively)
What do you want, Rosenfield?

ROSENFIELD
(smiling)
I've found a breakthrough in your... romantic situation.

INT. SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT - NIGHT

In the INTERROGATION ROOM, LOG LADY enters, carrying her log.

LOG LADY
(whispering)
My log has seen something important.

COOPER
(enigmatically)
The path to the truth is often shrouded in darkness. Please, share your wisdom with us.

LOG LADY
The path unseen leads to the truth untold. Dead men walk among the living.

Twin Peaks: The Whispers of the Night

EXT. TWIN PEAKS SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT - NIGHT

Sheriff Harry Truman steps out from his cruiser, looking at the illuminated sign above the station. A faint whisper of wind carries an eerie tune.

HARRY: (to himself) Something's off tonight.

INT. TWIN PEAKS SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT - NIGHT

DEPUTY ANDY BRENNAN stands nervously by the coffee machine, watching as the coffee slowly drips into the pot. Lucy is busily sorting through phone messages.

LUCY: Andy, did you hear that weird sound coming from outside?

ANDY: (nervously) Uh, no Lucy...

HARRY enters the station and walks over to his colleagues, pouring himself a cup of coffee.

HARRY: Lucy, check if there are any reports of strange activity around town.

EXT. WINDY ROAD - NIGHT

Special Agent Dale Cooper is driving down the dark road. A sudden gust of wind blasts into his car, jostling objects around.

COOPER: (to Diane via recorder) Diane, I've never experienced winds like this before in Twin Peaks. I've got a feeling something big is about to happen...

Cooper continues driving, noticing a woman standing along the desolate road.

COOPER: (recorder still running) Diane, there's a woman in distress by the roadside. I'm pulling over to offer assistance.

EXT. ROADSIDE - NIGHT

COOPER approaches the dazed woman. She's wearing a white dress, her eyes seemingly lost.

COOPER: Ma'am, are you okay? Do you need help?

MYSTERIOUS WOMAN: He's waiting... (pauses) Please help me...

COOPER: Who's waiting, ma'am? I'm here to help you.

INT. TWIN PEAKS SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT - NIGHT

Lucy relays the reports of strange activity while Harry and Andy listen intently.

LUCY: Sheriff, there's been multiple calls about strange noises and sudden gusts of wind in town. And a possible power outage at the Double R Diner.

HARRY: (worried) Alright, let's split up. Andy, you check on the Double R. Lucy, keep monitoring those calls. I’ll go check other areas of the town.

EXT. ROADSIDE - NIGHT

MYSTERIOUS WOMAN: The night... it whispers...

Suddenly, the wind picks up again, and the mysterious woman disappears into the darkness.

COOPER: No! Where did you go?

Cooper's car engine shudders and dies, leaving him in total darkness.

COOPER: (to Diane via recorder, voice strained) Diane, I'm presently stranded on Road 21. The woman has vanished, and my vehicle appears to be disabled. I'll need assistance.

EXT. TWIN PEAKS SHERIFF'S STATION - DAY

Sheriff HARRY TRUMAN is standing outside, sipping his coffee as DEPUTY ANDY approaches.

HARRY
(looking puzzled)
Andy, do you hear that whispering?

ANDY
(proudly)
On it, Sheriff! I've got my trusty tape recorder with me!

As they walk towards the source of the noise, they discover that it's not a person whispering, but the woods themselves.

INT. RR DINER - DAY

AGENT DALE COOPER is enjoying a piece of cherry pie as SHELLY, the waitress, refills his coffee.

COOPER
(smiling)
Shelly, this cherry pie truly is a miracle of culinary bliss.

SHELLY
(smiles back)
Why thank you, Agent Cooper. You know, you're really fitting in well here in Twin Peaks.

At that moment, LOG LADY enters the diner.

LOG LADY
My log has something to say about the whispering woods.

EXT. TWIN PEAKS SHERIFF'S STATION - DAY

Harry, Andy, and Agent Cooper are gathered together, each listening intently to the Log Lady's prophetic words.

LOG LADY
(whispering)
The whispers entice you; danger, secrets, truth. But be forewarned - the truth can intoxicate and the allure can deceive.

COOPER
I think it's time we follow the whispers and uncover just what the woods are hiding.

INT. GREAT NORTHERN HOTEL - DAY

BEN HORN is in his office, looking over some documents when his assistant, JERRY, enters, visibly excited.

JERRY
(stammering)
Ben, you won't believe it, but I just heard rumors about whispers in the woods. We can use this to our advantage!

BEN
(smirking)
A new tourist attraction or a way to keep the townsfolk on their toes? Either way, I like the way you think, Jerry.

EXT. WHISPERING WOODS - DAY

Agent Cooper, Sheriff Truman, Deputy Andy, and Log Lady venture into the woods, following the whispers.

LOG LADY
The whispers are growing stronger.

ANDY
(jittery)
But I thought your log said it's dangerous!

LOG LADY
(use logs soothingly)
Danger, Andy, doesn't always mean a bad outcome.

They soon find themselves in front of an old cabin, the whispering is loud and eerie.

HARRY
(squinting at the cabin)
This place... It looks familiar...

COOPER
(looking determined)
We must follow the whispers wherever they lead us, even if it's into the heart of darkness itself. You never know what you might find.

As they take their first step towards the cabin, the whispers grow louder, and the woods seem darker than ever.
