INT. WHEELER HOUSE - MIKE’S BASEMENT - NIGHT
All four boys (MIKE, LUCAS, DUSTIN, and WILL) are at their usual spot, playing Dungeons & Dragons.
LUCAS: I cast a Protection spell on my team! Now, none of us can be harmed by the Demogorgon.
DUSTIN (excited): Perfect! Now let’s kick its butt!
WILL (anxious): Wait, what if it has a trap planned for us?
MIKE: Okay. We have to be careful then. We'll move forward, but keep our eyes open for any traps.

EXT. HAWKINS HIGH SCHOOL - DAY
The school is decorated for an upcoming talent competition. Students are buzzing with excitement.
INT. HAWKINS HIGH SCHOOL - GYM - DAY
Posters are everywhere, promoting the competition. MAX and ELEVEN spot MIKE, LUCAS, DUSTIN, and WILL in conversation.
MAX: Hey, guys! What do you think about signing up for the talent show? We could do something fun together.
ELEVEN: Yeah, it could be awesome!
WILL: What are we going to do on stage?
DUSTIN: Magic tricks! I have that kit at home! We can make it look spooky and mysterious like real magic!
MIKE: That sounds cool, but only if you guys want to.
LUCAS: I'm in.
ELEVEN (excited): Me too!
The gang decides to sign up for the talent show.
CUT TO:
INT. MIKE'S BASEMENT - NIGHT
The crew practices their magic tricks, laughing and having fun. ELEVEN begins to show them some real magic techniques with her powers, impressing everyone.
MIKE (grinning): Ele, that’s amazing! We're definitely going to win with these tricks.
Suddenly, the lights flicker, and in the corner sits a DARK FIGURE. They gasp.
WILL (whispering): It looks like the Demogorgon from our D&D game!

INT. WHEELER'S HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - NIGHT
It's the first day of summer break in Hawkins, Indiana. Eleven, Mike, Lucas, Will, and Max are hanging out in the living room, playing Monopoly.
MIKE
(rubs his hands together)
Alright, my turn!
MIKE rolls the dice and moves his pawn.
ELEVEN
(smiling)
Uh-oh, looks like Mike is going to jail.
MAX
(snickers)
Justice is served!
LUCAS
(laughs)
You can't always get away with things, Mike!
EXT. HAWKINS FOREST - NIGHT
The camera zooms through the dark forest outside of town. There's an eerie feeling throughout the woods that suggests not all is well in Hawkins.
INT. WHEELER'S HOUSE - KITCHEN - NIGHT
Nancy and Jonathan are in the kitchen, making food for the gang.
NANCY
So, how's your job at the Hawkins Post?
JONATHAN
(sighs)
Same as always. I'm constantly trying to prove myself to those people. But things seem to be getting better.
NANCY
(smiles)
That's great, Jonathan! I'm happy for you.
EXT. HAWKINS FOREST - NIGHT
An ominous figure lurks in the shadows, watching something in the distance. A deep growl is heard.
INT. WHEELER'S HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - NIGHT
The game continues, and the group is having fun.
WILL
(rolls the dice)
Aha! With that roll, I now own Boardwalk!
LUCAS
(exaggerated gasp)
No! He's taking over everything!
Suddenly the lights start flickering, catching everyone's attention.
MIKE
(concerned)
Guys, did you see that?
ELEVEN
(nods)
I saw it too. I think something's wrong.
EXT. HAWKINS FOREST - NIGHT
A low rumble can be heard emanating from the darkness of the woods.
INT. WHEELER'S HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - NIGHT
The group stands up and looks around the house, worried about the flickering lights.
MAX
Maybe it's just the power grid acting up?
WILL
(feeling a chill down his spine)
No, I don't think it's that...
The flickering lights become more intense, and a powerful gust of wind blows through the house, blowing the board game off the table.
ELEVEN
(focused)
Guys, we need to go back to the forest. I think there might be something there that we need to face.
LUCAS
(nervously)
But we just finished dealing with those monsters last summer. What could be left?
MIKE
(defiant)
Whatever it is, we'll face it together. We've done it before, and we'll do it again.
The group grabs their backpacks and flashlights, and prepares to head out into the night.

EXT. HAWKINS HIGH SCHOOL - DAY
Establishing shot of Hawkins High School.
INT. HAWKINS HIGH SCHOOL - HALLWAY - DAY
Mike, Will, Lucas, and Max walk through the hallway; they are discussing a recent strange event that happened in town.
MIKE
Did you guys hear about the mysterious power outage last night?
LUCAS
Yeah, the whole street went dark for like an hour.
WILL
It's just a power outage, guys. Happens all the time.
MAX
What if it's not just a power outage? Maybe it's related to the Upside Down?
Mike and Lucas reaction shows that might be a possibility, but Will brushes it off.
WILL
Not everything is Upside Down related, Max.
EXT. HAWKINS GENERAL STORE - DAY
Eleven and Nancy are shopping for a birthday present for Jonathan. They discuss school and Eleven's powers.
ELEVEN
Maybe we could get a new camera for him?
NANCY
We can, but it's pretty expensive. Let's look for something else.
ELEVEN
Nancy, do you think my powers will ever go away?
NANCY
Why would you want them to go away?
ELEVEN
Sometimes I feel weird...
INT. HAWKINS HIGH SCHOOL - HALLWAY - DAY
Back at the school, Mike's nose starts to bleed.
MIKE
Guys... I think I'm... I think I'm getting a vision.
Lucas panics.
LUCAS
Should we call Eleven?
Mike collapses, shaking and in pain. Will, Lucas, and Max struggle to help him.
MAX
Will, call Eleven!
INT. HAWKINS GENERAL STORE - DAY
Eleven receives the call, she listens, panicked.
WILL (V.O)
Eleven, come quickly, something's happening to Mike!
Eleven drops the phone and takes off running.
INT. HAWKINS HIGH SCHOOL - HALLWAY - DAY
Eleven busts the door open and runs into the hallway. She approaches Mike, who is now unconscious.
ELEVEN
Mike! What happened to him?
LUCAS
He started having a vision or something...
WILL
We don't know, please help him!
In desperation, Eleven focuses her powers on Mike to try and revive him.

Stranger Things: Episode 6 - Echoes of the Past
INT. HAWKINS MIDDLE SCHOOL - HALLWAY - MORNING
A seemingly normal day in Hawkins Middle School, with students bustling about their ways. Mike, Will, Dustin, and Lucas are walking to their lockers, discussing their latest adventure in the ‘Upside Down,’ seemingly back to normal.
MIKE
You guys really think this is it? That we finally got rid of the Mind Flayer for good?
LUCAS
I hope so, man. I can't take any more of these monsters. But, you never know with this place.
DUSTIN
But guys, we've closed the gate, again! And Eleven's powers are stronger than ever - I think we're in the clear this time.
Will seems distant, rubbing his head.
WILL
Yeah, maybe you're right, Dustin.
INT. HAWKINS MIDDLE SCHOOL - CLASSROOM - MORNING
In the classroom, Max and Eleven chat as they prepare for class.
MAX
Did you feel weird last night? Like, the air being kind of... thick?
ELEVEN
Yeah. I had a dream too. It was dark but I could hear whispers - I couldn't understand them... but they were familiar.
Max nods, concerned.
INT. HAWKINS POLICE DEPARTMENT - CHIEF HOPPER'S OFFICE - DAY
CHIEF HOPPER is on the phone with DR. OWENS.
HOPPER
Dr. Owens, there's just something that doesn't feel right. We've had an unusual number of pets go missing and strange weather patterns. Could it be something from the lab?
DR. OWENS
Hopper, I assure you that the lab is closed and well monitored. But I'll look into it just in case.
Hopper hangs up, unconvinced.
INT. HAWKINS MIDDLE SCHOOL - CAFETERIA - LUNCH
The kids gather around a table, eating lunch. They continue to discuss the strange occurrences in the town.
LUCAS
Every time we think we've seen the last of these monsters, something else comes up.
MIKE
Right, but let's not get too paranoid. It's probably just some weather anomaly or animals acting up.
DUSTIN
Guys, remember! My mom's cat was taken by a Demogorgon! Pets getting lost - that's never a good sign in this town.
WILL
I can't shake this feeling that something's coming. Like a large storm.
ELEVEN
Like an echo of the past.
Everyone grows silent. An eerie hush falls over the cafeteria.
EXT. HAWKINS WOODS - AFTERNOON
Steve, Nancy, and Jonathan are out in the woods, investigating the missing pets. They find the remains of a chewed up chain collar.
NANCY
This doesn't look good. Now I'm worried we've missed something.
JONATHAN
I agree. We'll have to tell Hopper and the others, but I think we need to tread carefully. Let's continue looking around.
EXT. HAWKINS WOODS - DUSK
The sky darkens as the friends gather at their usual hideout. Will pulls out a cassette player as music from The Clash plays softly in the background.
ELEVEN
If there's any hint about what happened in my dream or any connection to the upside down, I should be able to find it.
Her eyes flicker as she begins to focus her energy.

Stranger Things: Echoes of The Past
INT. HAWKINS HIGH SCHOOL - GYMNASIUM - NIGHT
The gym is decorated for the 1986 Hawkins Homecoming Dance. Mike, Eleven, Dustin, Lucas, Will, and Max are all dressed in formal attire. Steve and Nancy are chaperoning the event with other high school staff members.
MIKE
(whispers to Eleven)
I can't believe we actually convinced Steve to chaperone this thing.
ELEVEN
(smiles)
He's doing it for Nancy.
Dustin sees Suzie on the bleachers, unsure if she wants to dance.
DUSTIN
(mumbles to himself)
Okay Henderson, you've got this.
Dustin musters up the courage to ask Suzie to dance. She accepts his invitation, and they head to the dance floor.
LUCAS
(mocking)
Aw, look at him. Dustin's first high school slow dance.
MAX
(laughing)
He's so nervous he's practically shaking.
Suddenly, a series of high-pitched beeping and static sounds emit from the speakers, causing everyone to cover their ears. The colored lights begin to flicker uncontrollably, and the gym goes dark.
WILL
(noticing his friends' concern)
Guys, it's just a technical problem, nothing weird.
ELEVEN
(reading Will's mind)
You're still afraid, even after all this time.
WILL
I'm not afraid.
Suddenly, the light returns, but with a green hue. Weird symbols appear on the walls, and the room starts to get freezing cold. Eleven senses something powerful approaching.
ELEVEN
(concerned)
Something's wrong. Very wrong.
A figure made of black mist emerges from one of the symbols, and everyone starts panicking. Mike and the gang back away from the figure.
LUCAS
(angrily)
Why can't we just have one normal night in this town?!
MAX
(sarcastically)
Welcome to Hawkins, remember?
Eleven uses her powers to defend her friends from the figure. It shrieks in pain as it is pushed back into the symbol, disappearing.
ELEVEN
(heavy breathing)
We need to get to Hopper. This isn't over.

Stranger Things: The Haunting Tape
INT. THE WHEELER HOUSE - MIKE'S BASEMENT - NIGHT
The Dungeons & Dragons board is set, but the boys are not playing tonight. Instead, a familiar static buzzes from the old television while DUSTIN, LUCAS, MIKE, and WILL stare in disbelief.
MIKE
(whispers)
What is that?
WILL
I don't know, but it feels... strange.
LUCAS
Did someone try to record a movie or something?
DUSTIN
I found this tape on the side of the road, decided to see what was on it. I didn't think it would be this.
The static slowly shifts into a blurry image of a haunted-looking house, and a chilling voice speaks through the static.
VOICE (O.S)
Welcome... to my home.
The boys exchange nervous glances, then the image cuts out, and the screen goes black.
INT. THE HAWKINS POLICE STATION - DAY
JIM HOPPER stands at his desk, a haphazard pile of papers and a steaming cup of coffee before him. JOYCE BYERS skids into the room, out of breath.
JOYCE
Hop, I need your help.
HOPPER
Joyce, what is it this time?
She pulls out her phone and shows him a photo of the creepy house.
JOYCE
I found it in my backyard. It looks exactly like the one in the photo. It wasn't there yesterday.
HOPPER (sighs)
Alright, let's check it out.
EXT. THE HAWKINS PARK - DAY
The boys, bicycles in tow, ride toward Eleven, who sits on a bench, visibly distraught.
MIKE
El, what's wrong?
ELEVEN
I... I can feel it, the house. It's connected to the Upside-Down.
DUSTIN
That's what we saw on the tape!
LUCAS
You three have to destroy it. If it's connected to the Upside-Down, we could be up against something dangerous.
WILL
We've faced danger before. We can do it again.
EXT. JOYCE'S BACKYARD - DAY
Hopper and Joyce hesitantly approach the mysterious house, flashlights in hand, the sun dipping below the treeline.
HOPPER
You sure you didn't just forget you had it in your backyard, Joyce?
JOYCE (annoyed)
Very funny, Hop.
HOPPER
What can I say, I'm a funny guy.
They share a tense chuckle, unaware of the danger they'll face.
INT. THE HAUNTED HOUSE - DAY
Eleven, Mike, and Will enter cautiously while the others stand guard outside, keeping watch for any signs of danger.
WILL
It's... so dark.
MIKE
Darker than dark. It's wrong.
ELEVEN
(whispers)
The Mind Flayer knows... it left a tracker with me.
WILL
El, we've got your back. We'll do whatever it takes.
ELEVEN (determined)
Thank you.
Back outside, Lucas and Dustin spot a figure emerging from the trees. It's Max.
LUCAS
Max, what are you doing here?
MAX
I followed you. That house, it's giving off some... weird energy. Like in my nightmares.
DUSTIN
That's not good. If Max can feel it too...
LUCAS
... We're in trouble.

EXT. WOODS - NIGHT
A dense fog envelops the wooded area around Hawkins as the roar of a thunderstorm lingers in the background.
INT. MIKE'S BASEMENT - NIGHT
The DUNGEONS & DRAGONS pieces are scattered across the table, while Mike, Dustin, Max, Lucas, and Will sit around, defeated.
MIKE
(sighs)
I thought for sure we'd defeat the Umber Hulk this time.
WILL
Maybe next time, we need a better strategy.
DUSTIN
How about we actually come prepared with the right weapons next time?
MAX
Guys, it's just a game. It's supposed to be fun, remember?
Lucas nods, acknowledging Max's wisdom.
EXT. HAWKINS HIGH SCHOOL - NIGHT
Steve Harrington awkwardly walks down the school halls and stumbles upon Nancy and Jonathan studying a map in a dimly lit classroom.
STEVE
Hey, what's going on? Should I be worried?
NANCY
(slight smile)
Not at all, Steve. Just plotting out locations for our next investigation.
JONATHAN
We noticed some strange things happening lately near the woods by the old stone bridge. We're going to check it out tomorrow.
INT. BYERS' LIVING ROOM - NIGHT
Joyce is absent-mindedly knitting when Hopper walks in, holding a manila envelope. Seeing the worry on his face, Joyce stands up immediately.
JOYCE
Jim, what is it? What's wrong?
HOPPER
I got a call from a friend of mine, another law enforcement buddy. He received some information about new experiments happening at a facility near Hawkins. I don't think it's good news.
Joyce has a worried and fearful expression. She knows all too well the chaos that such experiments can cause.
EXT. WOODS by OLD STONE BRIDGE - DAY
The kids are on their bikes, searching for the old stone bridge following the unplanned adventures they keep finding themselves in.
MIKE
(gesturing towards the bridge)
There it is! But why did El say we needed to be here?
Suddenly, Eleven, pale and frightened, comes running out of the woods.
ELEVEN
(panting)
Mike...it's coming.
A loud, monstrous roar echoes in the woods, and the ground starts quaking beneath their feet. The kids look terrified as they grab their bikes and start pedalling faster than ever before.

INT. WHEELER HOUSE - KITCHEN - MORNING
It's breakfast time, and NANCY, MIKE, and their parents KAREN and TED are seated around the table. The atmosphere is anxious, noticeably silent. The only sounds are the clinking of utensils on plates.
MIKE
(trying to break the silence)
I got a new high score on Dig Dug yesterday.
TED
(disinterested)
That's nice, Mike.
Suddenly, the lights flicker.
NANCY
(whispering)
Here we go again.
KAREN
Nobody say anything. It'll pass.
The flickering grows stronger.
INT. BYERS HOUSE - JOYCE'S ROOM - MORNING
JOYCE is curled up in bed, unable to sleep. She hears the ruckus in the living room, and with a sigh, she picks up a bat and heads there.
INT. BYERS HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - MORNING
The alphabet wallpaper is shaking, each letter pulsating as if it's trying to break free. Joyce watches in horror, bat in hand.
INT. MYERS HOUSE - ELEVEN'S ROOM - MORNING
ELEVEN is in her room, hunched over a picture of HOPPER - trying to summon him with her powers. Nothing happens. In frustration, she throws the picture down and storms out of her room.
EXT. MYERS HOUSE - FRONT YARD - MORNING
Eleven steps outside and catches sight of DUSTIN and LUCAS biking down the street towards her. She waves. Their concerned expressions mirror her own.
INT. WHEELER HOUSE - BASEMENT - DAY
MIKE, WILL, DUSTIN, LUCAS, and ELEVEN are gathered around cassette tapes and a radio ready to be launched. The music playing is unfamiliar and eerie.
MIKE
(desperate)
We have to do something. I can't take this anymore.
WILL
I've been hearing whispers in my dreams.
LUCAS
(annoyed)
That's not new, Will. We know they get in your head.
DUSTIN
(excited)
I got an idea. What if we contact them through their own creepy music? Maybe we can force them to communicate on our terms!
EVERYONE
(whispers)
Here goes nothing.
DUSTIN presses play on the tape recorder. The eerie tune resonates, and the room fills with whispers. The kids exchange worried glances.
The whispers grow louder, and the lights flicker violently.
The walls shake, making pictures swing and shatter as they hit the floor. Plaster rains down on the terrified children.
Just as the chaos reaches its peak, silence falls. Bewildered, they stare at one another as a single, clear whisper echoes among them.
WHISPER
(urgent)

INT. PALACE ARCADE - DAY
MIKE, ELEVEN, DUSTIN, and LUCAS gather around a new video game
machine while STEVE mans the counter. There's an excited
buzz in the air.
MIKE
This game is supposed to be
the coolest yet.
DUSTIN
It's got nothing on Dig Dug.
ELEVEN
Can I try?
LUCAS
Sure thing, El.
Eleven steps up to the game machine and presses start.
The screen flickers and flashes with colors.
CUT TO:
EXT. WOODED TRAIL - DUSK
WILL walks alone, his bike trailing behind him. A strong wind
blows, making the trees creak and groan.
WILL
(whispering to himself)
It's just the wind..
Suddenly, his bike's light starts to flicker, and he hears a
voice behind him.
VOICE
(helplessly)
Will...
Will gasps and his face drains of color.
WILL
Ghost...Ghost?
GHOST (BILLY's form)
(to Will)
Please...help...
A panicked Will drops his bike and runs back towards town.
CUT TO:
INT. PALACE ARCADE - DAY
DUSTIN
El, how did you get that high
score? Nobody's ever done
that before.
ELEVEN
I just...felt it.
They hear footsteps and turn around to see a terrified Will,
running in.
WILL
Guys, I...I saw...it's back.
LUCAS
What's back? The upside down?
MIKE
Or do you mean the Demogorgon?
WILL
No, it...it's different...
The ground shakes and a deep rumbling sound fills their ears. They
exchange worried looks.
