Breaking Point

INT. NEWS OF THE WEEK OFFICE - DAY

PATTY (25, ambitious, confident) is typing away at her typewriter. She looks over her work, smirking proudly.

PATTY:
Another piece done. Cindy, have you finished?

CINDY (26, soft-spoken, sheltered) is working diligently on her typing.

CINDY:
I still have a few things to edit, but it's almost done.

ANGLE ON JANE (27, intelligent, determined), deep in thought as she flips through a folder.

JANE:
Hey, have either of you heard about Betty? Apparently, she just resigned.

CINDY:
Really? That's odd.

PATTY:
Something must be going on. We should find out.

INT. NEWS OF THE WEEK HALLWAY - DAY

Jane, Patty, and Cindy walk down the hallway of the office, heading toward the break room.

INT. NEWS OF THE WEEK BREAK ROOM - DAY

The three women find BETTY (40s, strong-matriarch) packing up her things in the break room.

JANE:
Betty, we heard that you resigned. Why?

BETTY:
I've had enough of this place. I'm starting something on my own.

PATTY:
What are you planning?

BETTY:
I can't say yet, but it's a revolution. A movement that will change everything. You'll see.

ANGLE ON DOUG (24, attractive, confident) as he enters the break room, seemingly intrigued.

DOUG:
A revolution, huh? Sounds interesting.

BETTY:
You'll see, everyone will. (away)

Betty exits the room.

INT. NEWS OF THE WEEK OFFICE - DAY

The women discuss what they've just heard.

CINDY:
Do you think Betty was serious about a revolution?

JANE:
She seemed very confident about it, so I wouldn't put it past her.

PATTY:
We should keep an eye on what she's up to. If it's something that could help us, we need to be a part of it.

INT. NEWS OF THE WEEK COPY ROOM - DAY

Jane is making copies when Doug enters the room.

DOUG:
Can't believe Betty's leaving.

JANE:
I think it's her way of trying to change things.

DOUG:
You women really stick together, huh?

JANE:
That's what the world needs right now, more people that care.

ANGLE ON PATTY and CINDY as they enter the copy room.

PATTY:
What are we talking about?

JANE:
Just reflecting on Betty's decision.

CINDY:
We can support her and future changes together.

PATTY:
Agreed. Let's start the revolution right here.

The women share a moment of determination and solidarity.

Breaking the Chains

INT. NEWS OF THE WEEK OFFICE - DAY

CINDY walks hurriedly towards PATTY and JANE, carrying a stack of papers.

CINDY
Guys! I might've found something that could finally even out the playing field for us.

PATTY
(mock excitement)
What, did you discover women are just as qualified to be reporters as men?

CINDY
Well, no, but I found some dirt on one of our dear male colleagues that could potentially get them fired.

Judy takes a seat at her desk, listening in.

JANE
Cindy, we can't just go around digging up dirt on the guys. We should be focused on our own work and making it the best it can be.

CINDY
Sure, Jane, but haven't you heard about fighting fire with fire?

NORA enters, holding a newspaper clipping.

NORA
Speaking of fire, have you seen this article about the women's lib protest at the textile factory?

PATTY
(sarcasm)
I think the headline "Bra-Burning Hags" really captures the spirit of the movement.

CINDY
Ladies, are we just going to sit here and complain or are we going to do something about it?

JANE
I know this is frustrating, but I don't think getting someone fired is the answer.

Patty and Cindy exchange glances.

PATTY
Forget Jane. You're right, Cindy. Let's fight fire with fire.

They high-five.

EXT. NEW YORK CITY STREET - DAY

The Good Girls, PATTY, CINDY, JANE, and JUDY, join a protest outside a textile factory alongside several WOMEN'S LIB PROTESTORS.

CINDY
This feels monumental, like we're witnessing a cultural shift.

JANE
It is impossible to deny that something is changing.

JUDY
I can't wait for the day when women have equal rights, and we don't have to protest anymore.

PATTY
That day can't come soon enough.

The women link arms as they march, feeling the power of the movement.

Good Girls Revolt: Breaking the Chains

INT. NEWS OF THE WEEK OFFICE - MORNING

The office is bustling with the usual weekday chaos. Jane, Patti, and Cindy huddle together, whispering about the latest rumor.

JANE
Did you hear about what happened to Susan?

CINDY
Yeah, I heard management made her transfer to another department for "asking too many questions."

PATTI
(sarcastically)
Well, isn't that just the epitome of progress!

INT. SAM'S OFFICE - MORNING

Nora enters Sam's office, visibly upset.

NORA
We need to talk, Sam.

SAM
(looking concerned)
What's wrong?

NORA
Susan's transfer. Can't you see what they're doing? Trying to silence us? First it starts with her...

She takes a deep breath.

SAM
I know what you're saying, but let's try to focus on our work. We still have some power to expose the truth.

Nora appears unsatisfied, but manages to bottle up her rage.

INT. NEWS OF THE WEEK OFFICE - DAY

Jane, Patti, and Cindy gather around a desk, looking at potential leads for their latest story.

CINDY
This can't be a coincidence. The factory fire, the owner's ties to the mayor... Something's off.

JANE
We have an opportunity here. If we dig deeper, who knows what we might uncover.

PATTI
That's right. And we need to cover this story on our own terms.

As the women work together, Leanne walks by, overhearing the conversation.

LEANNE
(smug)
Good luck with that.

PATTI
(mocking)
Thanks, Leanne. We'll need it.

INT. RESTAURANT - NIGHT

Jane, Patti, Cindy, Nora, and a few other colleagues gather for dinner.

NORA
Ladies, we can't let Susan's transfer be in vain. Let's make a pact: we won't let this continue. We'll fight for our rights and make our voices heard. Are you with me?

CINDY
Absolutely. We can't keep letting them treat us like second-class citizens.

JANE
I'm game. Let's make some change!

PATTI
(toasts)
To breaking the chains!

ALL
Cheers!

Everyone raises their glasses.

A New Beginning

INT. NEWS OF THE WEEK OFFICE - DAY

It's a busy Monday morning and the office is buzzing with activity. Jane (J), Patti (P), and Cindy (C) are seated at their desks, proofreading articles.

Patti (P):
Can you believe this? We're finally writing our own stories and getting recognition for it!

Cindy (C):
I know! Though, I'll admit I kinda miss our little rebellion.

Jane (J):
We fought hard for this. Now is the time to show everyone what we're capable of. No more hiding behind the men!

INT. ELEANOR HOLMES NORTON'S OFFICE - DAY

Eleanor Holmes Norton (E) is sitting behind her desk, going through some paperwork.

Eleanor (E):
I'll make sure you girls get the support you need. News of the Week finally acknowledging your work is a huge deal for all women in this industry.

INT. NEWS OF THE WEEK OFFICE - DAY

Sammy (S) approaches the girls' desk, looking nervous.

Sammy (S):
Hey, um, Jane? Mr. Wickham wants to see you in his office. Now.

Jane (J):
(confident) Thanks, Sammy. I know I can handle it.

INT. MR. WICKHAM'S OFFICE - DAY

Jane walks in to find Mr. Wickham (W) seated behind his desk, visibly irritated.

Mr. Wickham (W):
Jane. Before we start, I just want to say that you girls have come a long way. But, frankly, I'm not happy with some of the stories you're turning in.

Jane (J):
May I ask what seems to be the problem?

Mr. Wickham (W):
Some of your topics lack the serious tone that our readers expect. Women's rights are important, but not everything needs to be about revolution and rebellion.

Jane (J):
Our readers are evolving along with the society. We should be able to focus on stories that highlight women's growth and possibilities.

INT. NEWS OF THE WEEK OFFICE - DAY

Jane walks back to her desk and informs Patti and Cindy about the conversation.

Jane (J):
Well, Wickham has a problem with our topics. He thinks not everything should be about women's rights.

Patti (P):
Not everything is. We're telling the stories of real people, and if he doesn't like it, then maybe it's time to think bigger...

Cindy (C):
What do you mean, Patti?

Patti (P):
Maybe it's time we start our own publication.

The girls look at each other, reflecting on the significance of such a move.

Good Girls Revolt - Season 2, Episode 1

            INT. NEWSROOM - DAY

Patty enters the newsroom, holding research materials for the day's edition. She greets her colleagues and walks to her desk.

PATTY
Good morning, everyone!

NORA
(exhausted)
Is it, though?

Patty smirks and places her materials on her desk as she sits down.

PATTY
Well, this article I found says women's rights are making progress. So, I suppose it is.

JANE
(from a distance)
Are we still focusing on women's rights? It's important, of course, but there are other issues that need attention too.

NORA
Don't worry, Jane. We have a few other stories lined up for today.

JANE
(relieved)
Good.

CINDY
(looking at a newspaper)
Greg, the competition just got a scoop on a major corruption scandal. We need to get on top of this.

GREG
(assigning tasks)
Okay, Cindy, work on that corruption story. Jane, you'll assist her. And Patty, dig deeper into that women's rights article.

Patty and Jane exchange a glance as they prepare to work on their respective stories.

INT. CONFERENCE ROOM - DAY

The team gathers around a large table, discussing ideas and research for their stories.

JANE
This corruption story could be huge. It spans multiple government departments.

NORA
Now that's groundbreaking journalism.

CINDY
But can we really expose such a vast corruption network without it coming back at us?

GREG
We'll be careful, but the public deserves to know.

Patty chimes in about her research on women's rights.

PATTY
I've discovered that some progress has been made, and women are becoming more vocal in their fight for rights. I want to find out more.

GREG
That's perfect, Patty. Keep working on it.

Patty smiles and nods.

INT. NEWSROOM - NIGHT

The newsroom is buzzing with activity. Everyone is working hard to finalize their stories. Patty is on the phone with a source, while Jane and Cindy are going over documents.

PATTY
(whispers to Jane)
I've got some groundbreaking information from my source. This could be my biggest story yet.

JANE
(smiling)
That's fantastic, Patty!

CINDY
The same goes for our corruption story. The deeper we go, the more we find. This is going to make waves.

GREG
(approaching)
Team, let's wrap up for the night. Tomorrow's publication day, so let's come in fresh and ready to finish these stories strong.

Everyone nods and starts packing up their things.

EXT. NEWS BUILDING - NIGHT

The team exits the building, discussing their stories as they leave.

NORA
I can't imagine the impact our stories will have tomorrow.

JANE
We've all been working so hard. We deserve some recognition.

CINDY
Let's not get too ahead of ourselves. We still have to polish everything tomorrow.

GREG
You're right. See you all bright and early. Big day ahead.

They part ways, each heading to their respective homes.

TO BE CONTINUED.

Good Girls Revolt: Breaking Barriers

INT. NEWS OF THE WEEK OFFICE - DAY

Patti, Jane, and Cindy are gathered around a cluttered table covered in papers, the hum of activity in the background as coworkers hustle and bustle.

PATTI
Did you guys see this? The new regulations set by the Equal Pay Act are being openly flaunted by our own office!

JANE
(angry)
I can't believe it. All this time, we thought we were making progress.

CINDY
(disheartened)
I thought things were getting better too. What do we do now?

Patti slaps her hand down on the table, fired up.

PATTI
We fight. Just like we've always done.

ANGLE ON: NORA EPHRON, standing by her desk, overhears the conversation.

NORA
(defiant)
Good. It's time they felt the heat of a feminist furor.

The girls look to Nora and nod in solidarity.

INT. MR. HAYES' OFFICE - DAY

Mr. Hayes, the Managing Editor, is sitting at his desk, paper piles and cigarette smoke encompassing him.

FINN, a new male reporter recently promoted, enters the office hesitantly.

FINN
You wanted to see me, sir?

HAYES
(nods)
Yes, sit down, Finn. I've been hearing some rumblings from the women in the office. Something about being unfairly paid compared to the male staff...

Finn shifts uncomfortably in his chair.

FINN
Well, um, sir, what do you want me to do about it?

HAYES
(waving his hand dismissively)
Nothing for now. Just keep this on the down-low. Can't afford to have another upheaval on my watch.

INT. PATTI'S APARTMENT - NIGHT

The girls are gathered together: Patti, Jane, Cindy, and Nora. They're pouring over newspapers and documents, seeking dirt on the company.

JANE
(excited, pointing to a document)
Look! This shows that our publisher is friends with the owner of a company that produces the paper they use for printing!

CINDY
And they have connections to the labor union. That could help our campaign, right?

NORA
We need to collect all the information we can, then make it public. It's time to expose the hypocrisy and demand equal wages.

The girls continue to dig as the feeling of united determination grows stronger among them.

INT. NEWS OF THE WEEK OFFICE - DAY

A week later, the girls wait nervously in the crowded office as a FEMALE MESSINGER delivers their files to Hayes, whose brows furrow in concern.

ANGLE ON: A GROUP OF FEMALE WORKERS whispering among themselves.

FEMALE WORKER 1
(nervously)
Do you think they'll succeed?

FEMALE WORKER 2
(close to tears)
They have to. We can't go on like this.

ANGLE ON: PATTI, CINDY, JANE, AND NORA approach Hayes' office, eyes on them from all directions in the office.

HAYES (O.S.)
(getting louder)
What is the meaning of this?!

The girls exchange glances, steeled for the fight ahead.

PATTI
(to the other girls)
Ready?

JANE
(determined)
More than ever.

All TOGETHER:

PATTI, JANE, CINDY, NORA
Equal pay, or we walk.

And they march toward Hayes' office, facing the battle. The other female workers look on, empowered.

Good Girls Revolt: In Pursuit of Freedom

INT. NEWS OF THE WEEK - DAY

PATTY (22, sharp, overachieving) stands at the typewriter clacking away. JANE (24, thoughtful, composed) approaches with a pile of papers.

JANE
Patty, Greg's looking for you. He's got another assignment for you.

PATTY
(wryly)
What does he want me to do this time - transcribe his mother's recipes?

JANE
(smiling)
No, it's about that underground women's group protesting for equal rights. It's right up your alley.

Patty stops typing and becomes instantly interested.

PATTY
That sounds more like it.

CINDY (24, sweet, ambitious) enters, excited and breathless.

CINDY
You guys will never guess what I saw on my lunch break!

Patty and Jane look up, intrigued.

JANE
What did you find?

CINDY
A group of women gathering outside the Supreme Court with signs. I heard they're petitioning for the right to abortions.

PATTY
(excited)
That's huge! We need to write about this.

The three share a look of determination.

INT. NEWS OF THE WEEK - GREG'S OFFICE - DAY

Patty, Jane, and Cindy stand before GREG (32, arrogant, misogynistic), pitching their story idea.

PATTY
Greg, we've got a cutting-edge story for you. It's about women protesting for their reproductive rights at the Supreme Court.

GREG
(doubtful)
You really think that's worth covering? It's just a bunch of women whining about their problems.

JANE
(assertive)
This is a major moment in the fight for women's rights. We have to cover it.

CINDY
Please Greg, let us write the story.

Greg reluctantly agrees.

GREG
Fine. But if it's not dynamite, you're all covering the dog show next week.

INT. NEWS OF THE WEEK - DAY

Patty, Jane, and Cindy eagerly begin their research for the story. They're on a mission.

EXT. SUPREME COURT BUILDING - DAY

The three women arrive at the protest. They're surrounded by women holding signs, chanting, and demanding change. Patty, Jane, and Cindy exchange excited glances, knowing this is their chance to make a difference.

Patty steps forward to interview a protestor. As she does, Jane takes photos for the article, and Cindy scribbles down notes. The three work together, harmoniously.

Good Girls Revolt - Season 2, Episode 1: The First Strike

INT. NEWS OF THE WEEK OFFICE - DAY

The room is abuzz with the sound of typewriters clacking, people shuffling about, and the distant ringing of telephones. The vibe is fresh, yet tense. It's been a few months since the first Women's Strike for Equality.

PATTY (early 20s, fiery and driven) and CINDY (early 20s, skeptical and sarcastic) are seated side by side at their desks, deep in a conversation.

PATTY: I still can't believe it's been three months since the strike. We still have so much work to do. It feels like we're barely making a dent.

CINDY: Honestly, Pat, it's better than hiding in the shadows like we used to. Just look around.

Patty glances around the office and notices that several more women are working amongst their male colleagues.

PATTY (smiling): I know, I know. I just wish change could happen a little faster.

CINDY: Rome wasn't built in a day, darling. Sometimes, you have to take the little victories.

The office doors fly open, and in walks JANE (early 20s, always prepared).

JANE (excitedly): Ladies, you won't believe what I just found out!

PATTY: What, Jane?

JANE: There's going to be a follow-up to the Women's Strike for Equality – and it's not just in New York this time.

CINDY (surprised): Really? Has anyone here heard about that?

JANE: Of course not. It's still in the early stages of planning, but... (leaning in closer) ...I heard about it from a contact at an underground feminist group I joined last night.

PATTY: You joined an underground feminist group without us?!

JANE (defensive): Well, I wanted to make sure it was legit before telling you both. And guess what? It is.

CINDY: I don't know, Jane. We have enough on our plates just working here.

PATTY: Cindy's right, but... (considering) ...maybe this could be an opportunity for us to make an even bigger impact.

As they discuss their options, GREGORY (mid-20s, arrogant) walks over to their desks.

GREGORY: Well, well, if it isn't the Ladies' Club. What kind of trouble are you all getting into today? (smirking)

JANE (ignoring him): We have work to do, Greg. You should try that sometime.

GREGORY (condescending): Cute, Jane. Have fun with your little gossip session.

Gregory walks away, amused by his own comment.

PATTY (angered): That man is insufferable!

CINDY: You don't have to tell us twice.

JANE: Let him talk. The more we make a difference, the less relevant guys like him will become.

PATTY: Amen to that. Now, tell us more about this underground group.

INT. UNDERGROUND FEMINIST MEETING - NIGHT

Patty, Cindy, and Jane enter the dimly lit room where the meeting is taking place. Nervous whispers and excited laughs fill the air.

JANE: Welcome to the revolution, ladies.

INT. NEWS OF THE WEEK - BULLPEN - MORNING

Establishing shot of REPORTERS scurrying around, covering breaking news. We see PATTY, CINDY, and JANE, our three leads, gathered in conversation.

PATTY: Can you believe it? The first female presidential candidate!

CINDY: It's about time.

JANE: Agreed, but is she the right candidate?

INT. FINN'S OFFICE - CONTINUOUS

Through the glass wall, we see GREG, the Editor-in-Chief, talking with FINN.

GREG: She's breaking all the norms, Finn. We need to assign our best reporters to this election season.

FINN: I couldn't agree more, Greg. Let's make sure our girls are on this.

INT. NEWS OF THE WEEK - BULLPEN - CONTINUOUS

PATTY, CINDY, and JANE continue their conversation.

JANE: I was skeptical at first, but our readers deserve a balanced perspective.

PATTY: Agreed. I want to ensure we don't just focus on her gender, but her policy and qualifications as well.

CINDY: That's a good point. We need to be fair.

FINN (OS): Ladies.

Finn approaches PATTY, JANE, and CINDY.

FINN: The News of the Week is putting together a team to cover the presidential race, with everything on the line. We want you guys in.

JANE: Really?

FINN: Yes. As Greg said, we need our best. That includes all of you.

EXT. NEW YORK CITY - DAY

A montage ensues with JANE, PATTY, and CINDY covering various campaign events.

INT. NEWS OF THE WEEK - BULLPEN - DAY

JANE, PATTY, and CINDY are huddled by their typewriters. Research papers, handwritten notes, and coffee cups litter their desks.

CINDY: I've been digging into her policy on education, and it seems like there's a lot of public support.

JANE: And her stance on international relations? Does she have the experience?

PATTY: Well, she was a senator and secretary of state ...

CINDY: That's more experience than most!

INT. FINN'S OFFICE - CONTINUOUS

GREG: Finn, there are concerns within the board about how much we're covering the first female presidential candidate. They want us to focus more on other issues.

FINN: Our job isn't to please the board. It's to make sure our readers get the whole story.

INT. CANDIDATE'S HEADQUARTERS - DAY

JANE is interviewing the female presidential candidate.

JANE: What would you say to critics who argue that you're just running on the gender card?

CANDIDATE: I'm running on a platform of progress and equality for all.

INT. NEWS OF THE WEEK - BULLPEN - NIGHT

PATTY, JANE, and CINDY are working late into the night, their faces illuminated by their desk lamps.

JANE: We're breaking ground here by choosing to cover this story. We need to do it justice.

CINDY: That's right. Let's see it through to the end.

PATTY: And fight for the truth.

The three women clink their coffee cups together, in agreement.

An Unlikely Revolution

INT. NEWS OF THE WEEK - EDITOR'S OFFICE - DAY

Editor Wick McFadden sits at his desk, pouring over a pile of papers. His assistant, Nancy, enters.

NANCY
Wick, do you have a minute?

WICK
For you, Nancy? Always. What's up?

NANCY
It's about the new girl, Sandy. She's been asking me a lot of questions lately.

WICK
(smiling)
Ah, a curious mind. Good for her. What's the problem?

NANCY
I worry that she's crossing boundaries. Just today, she was asking me about the pay gap between men and women.

Wick sits back in his chair, considering her words.

WICK
I see. Well, she's young, ambitious. She's got a real knack for research, so she probably stumbled upon some...unfortunate statistics.

NANCY
Yes, but do you think we should address it? Some of the girls are starting to talk.

WICK
(nods)
Alright, thank you for bringing this to my attention. But let's give it a few days, and see if it blows over.

Nancy nods and leaves the office.

INT. NEWS OF THE WEEK - RESEARCH ROOM - DAY

Researchers Patty and Jane huddle over a magazine article detailing the pay gap between men and women.

PATTY
(whispers)
Can you believe this? While we're doing the legwork, those guys are just reaping the benefits.

JANE
(sighs)
I know. But what can we do? It's not like they'll just give us equal pay and better positions.

Cindy enters and overhears the conversation. She hesitates but decides to join in.

SANDY
Excuse me... I couldn't help but overhear. Have you ever thought about...taking matters into your own hands?

PATTY
What do you mean?

SANDY
I have a friend at the ACLU. Maybe they could help us...

Patty and Jane exchange a glance, unsure of whether to ally with the new girl.

INT. NEWS OF THE WEEK - COFFEE ROOM - DAY

Several reporters, INCLUDING DOUG, are on break, drinking coffee and discussing the latest news. Patty approaches, trying to play it cool.

DOUG
(smirks)
No coffee for the research girls?

PATTY
(smiling)
Oh, just taking a break from all the heavy lifting we do around here.

DOUG
(laughs)
Good one. What can I do for you, Patty?

PATTY
I was just wondering... do you think we should have more opportunities for growth around here? You know, for everyone.

DOUG
(confused)
What do you mean?

PATTY
(disappointed)
Never mind. Enjoy your break.

Patty walks away, realizing that she needs to plan strategically if she wants to make a change.

INT. NEWS OF THE WEEK - RESEARCH ROOM - DAY

Sandy, Patty, and Jane meet in secret to discuss their next steps.

SANDY
(excited)
My friend says the ACLU might be able to help us. But we'd need to gather evidence and build our case.

JANE
(nervous)
Are we really doing this? I mean, what if we lose our jobs?

PATTY
(stern)
No one said it would be easy. We have to be ready to take a stand.

The girls exchange determined looks, knowing that they are embarking on something that could change their lives forever.

Breaking the Glass Ceiling

            INT. NEWSROOM - DAY

The room buzzes with the typical hum of typewriters and phones ringing. PATTY, CINDY, JANE, and NORA are gathered around their desks, firing out story ideas as their boss, WICK MCMANUS, stands nearby.

PATTY: What about a feature on the first black woman to attend Columbia Law School?

JANE: Or we could cover the protests against the Vietnam War happening on the college campuses.

CINDY: And don’t forget about the rise in cases of unwed mothers demanding child support!

WICK MCMANUS: (interrupting) Ladies, calm down. We can only pursue one lead at a time. We'll make a decision later today after we’ve discussed it. Focus on the articles at hand for now.

The girls nod, slightly frustrated but not surprised. They return to working on their articles.

INT. LADIES’ BREAK ROOM - DAY

Patty, Cindy, and Jane sit down to enjoy lunch together. The atmosphere is slightly tense as they discuss the events in the newsroom.

JANE: I’m tired of having our ideas consistently shot down. Each one is significant and worthy of investigation, yet we’re left covering fluff pieces.

PATTY: (passionate) You’re right. Our stories aren’t getting the attention they deserve, and we need to do something about it!

CINDY: (cautiously) And what do you propose?

PATTY: We need to start researching and writing the stories we want the world to read, even if future generations will see the impact.

JANE: (excited) That’s a fantastic idea! We could tackle pressing social issues, politics, and the battles that women across the country are fighting every day!

CINDY: But how do we get these stories to print?

NORA enters the room, hearing the last bit of the conversation.

NORA: That’s the tricky part, isn’t it? You girls are onto something though. We’ll find a way, even if it means breaking the glass ceiling ourselves.

EXT. COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY - DAY

Patty and Jane approach the campus, eager to interview the first black woman to attend the prestigious law school. As they begin to ask her questions, she hesitates.

LAW STUDENT: I appreciate your interest, but I can’t be interviewed at this time. I’m already under intense scrutiny from my peers and professors. I can’t draw further attention.

Jane and Patty exchange glances, understanding her position.

JANE: (sympathetic) We understand.

PATTY: Thank you for your time. You're making history, and we hope to do the same in the media world.

INT. NEWSROOM - EVENING

The girls gather at Patty’s desk, discussing their plan for moving forward.

NORA: (determined) I may know someone who can help us get these stories to print. But first, we need to have everything prepared, from research to final drafts.

Patty, Jane, and Cindy exchange looks of determination.

PATTY: So be it. The revolution begins today!

INT. NEWS OF THE WEEK OFFICE - DAY

PATTY (20's, looking around suspiciously) walks in the door, with NORA (20s, following her closely) right behind her.

PATTY: So, I heard they're bringing in a new writer. Rumor has it, he's written for some pretty controversial magazines.

NORA: You think he could be problematic?

PATTY: To be honest, I have no idea, but we have to be prepared.

CINDY (20's, walking by): Oh, are you talking about the new guy? I heard he's been pushing for women's rights in the workplace.

The three women glance at each other, intrigued.

INT. ELEVATOR - DAY

JANE (20's, confident) steps onto the elevator, holding a STACK OF PAPERS. NORA and PATTY join her.

JANE: I've been going through some of our past stories, and I can't believe how much attention male politicians get compared to the female ones.

PATTY: Right? It's frustrating.

NORA: Do you think the new guy could help us with that?

JANE (smirking): Well, let's see how committed he is to challenging the status quo.

INT. NEWS OF THE WEEK OFFICE - DAY

The elevator doors open, and the women walk in to find a GROUP OF REPORTERS and EDITORS surrounding GREGORY (30s, handsome and smart-looking).

GREGORY: ...and I believe that, as journalists, it's our duty to give all voices an equal platform, regardless of gender or social standing.

PATTY (whispering to NORA): Seems like we might be on the same page.

DOUG (40's, smug) chimes in, clearly annoyed by the conversation.

DOUG: Yeah, sure, but are we going to let a bunch of women run the show?

GREGORY (calm and measured): I think the most qualified person should take the lead, irrelevant of their sex. We're in the business of truth, aren't we? (smiles)

CUT TO:

INT. RESEARCH LIBRARY - DAY

The women gather around GREGORY, working on a STORY PROPOSAL together.

NORA: If we can expose the disparity in coverage between male and female politicians, we can start changing the conversation.

GREGORY: Agreed. And I think we should dig into why women are consistently disregarded and underrepresented in the political sphere.

CINDY: We could also look into how that impacts female voter turnout.

JANE (smiling): Let's show them what we're capable of.

The women and GREGORY begin working with renewed energy, knowing they've got an ally in the fight for change.
