Dexter: Blind Justice

            EXT. MIAMI BEACH - NIGHT

An aerial view of the beautiful Miami skyline at night leads us down to the bustling beachside party. The sound of people enjoying their drinks and the loud music dominates the night.

INT. PACKED NIGHTCLUB - NIGHT

DANCERS flood the dance floor, their carefree movements perfectly in sync with the pulsating beats. The lights flash wildly.

NARRATOR (V.O. - DEXTER)
Miami... It's always alive with a thriving pulse of joy and freedom. No one here suspects that under the beautiful surface, darkness thrives.

DEXTER, our protagonist, lurks in the shadows, scanning the room for his target.

NARRATOR (V.O. - DEXTER)
Judge Thomas Fredrick might've escaped from the hand of human justice, but he can't escape me... can't escape his 'Blind Justice'.

INT. PACKED NIGHTCLUB - VIP LOUNGE - NIGHT

JUDGE THOMAS FREDRICK sits, enjoying the company of women and liquor, ignoring the chaos outside of the club.

NARRATOR (V.O. - DEXTER)
Judge Fredrick... Accused of murder and bribery during multiple court sessions.

Extensive research led me here. Tonight is the night.

INT. PACKED NIGHTCLUB - RESTROOMS - NIGHT

Dexter enters the restroom and unscrews a lightbulb.

NARRATOR (V.O. - DEXTER)
I have to create total darkness to hide my exact target. After all, darkness is my ally.

INT. PACKED NIGHTCLUB - NIGHT

The club lighting goes haywire, and the room becomes darker.

Judge Thomas starts to panic amidst the commotion.

INT. PACKED NIGHTCLUB - BACK DOOR EXIT - NIGHT

Judge Thomas stumbles out of the club and into the parking lot.

NARRATOR (V.O. - DEXTER)
It's time to end his reign of terror.

INT. PARKING LOT - NIGHT

Dexter follows Judge Thomas through the poorly-lit parking lot. Dexter's breathing is controlled and quiet, ready to strike.

Suddenly, headlights flash on, distracting Dexter's movement.

NARRATOR (V.O. - DEXTER)
What...?!

_MIAMI METRO POLICE CAR enters the scene. Dexter hides in the shadows, watching as DEBRA MORGAN and JOEY QUINN step out of the vehicle._

DEBRA
There! That's him!

QUINN
Judge Thomas Fredrick! You're under arrest for bribery and conspiracy to commit murder. Believe us; you're not walking out of this one.

NARRATOR (V.O. - DEXTER)
I thought Judge Fredrick's luck had run out. This is unexpected... and annoying.

Dexter: A Tangled Web

INT. MIAMI METRO POLICE DEPARTMENT - NIGHT

The bullpen is quiet; only a few detectives remain. Dexter (off-duty) looks up from his partially disassembled computer and surveys the room.

DEXTER (VOICE OVER)
Another late night at the office. But not for the usual reasons...

Debra, reading through case files, looks over at Dexter.

DEBRA
Find anything on that hard drive yet?

DEXTER
Not yet. I'm working on it.

Debra sighs, frustrated.

DEBRA
This guy's been way too fucking clean.

DEXTER (VOICE OVER)
If only you knew, Deb...

INT. DEXTER'S LAB - NIGHT

Dexter continues to work on the hard drive, connecting it to another computer.

DEXTER (VOICE OVER)
This new killer has peaked my curiosity. He's careful, but not careful enough. I've found him.

The image on the computer screen shows a sinister-looking man with a crooked smile. Dexter's eyes narrow.

INT. KILL ROOM - NIGHT

The killer Dexter identified, BENNETT SIMMS, lies on his usual plastic-covered table, strapped down.

DEXTER
Hello, Bennett.

BENNETT
Who the hell are you?!

DEXTER (VOICE OVER)
My favorite question.

DEXTER
I'm the one who caught you.

BENNETT
You know what? I don't care. Do what you want. I'm not scared of death. Hell, I've seen it enough times.

Dexter moves closer to Bennett, grabbing a scalpel.

DEXTER
Oh, we're not done yet.

A knock on the door startles Dexter. He quickly recovers and opens the door to see Debra.

DEBRA
Hey, sorry to bother you. I need to ask about this new case.

Debra walks in, not noticing the draped-off kill room.

DEXTER
Sure. Let's talk.

Dexter's face is tense, struggling to maintain his composure.

Dexter: A Taste for Blood

            EXT. MIAMI - NIGHT

A quiet, moonlit night in Miami. The Miami Sky at night glows in the distance.

INT. DEXTER'S APARTMENT - NIGHT

DEXTER MORGAN (voiceover): Tonight's the night. The darkness in me will be fed.

Dexter is preparing his tools - syringes, knives, and other equipment. He double checks each item before placing them in a bag.

INT. MIAMI METRO POLICE DEPARTMENT - DAY

Angel Batista and Debra Morgan are going through piles of paperwork.

ANGEL BATISTA: This new case is killing me, Deb. Takes me forever just to go through a single file.

DEBRA MORGAN: Tell me about it. My fingers are numb from all this paper flipping.

LaGuerta approaches their desks.

MARIA LAGUERTA: Morgan, you're getting closer to finding the Blood Countess. Make sure you and Batista go through every piece of evidence. This could be our big break.

Debra nods.

INT. MIAMI METRO POLICE DEPARTMENT - MASUKA'S LAB

Dexter is examining a new set of blood slides.

DEXTER (voiceover): The Blood Countess. A killer with an unusual taste for blood. She torments her victims with a slow, agonizing process before finally killing them.

VINCE MASUKA: Well, Dexter, our victim seems to have lived a rather painful life.

DEXTER: What makes you say that?

MASUKA: Strange scars along the legs. As if the blood was slowly drained.

Dexter's curiosity grows.

INT. VICTIM'S HOUSE - NIGHT

Dexter breaks into the house, wearing his signature kill outfit. He goes through the victim's personal belongings and finds a hidden room.

INT. HIDDEN ROOM - NIGHT

He finds a small book - a journal with details about the Blood Countess. He scans the pages, admiring the meticulous writing and gruesome descriptions.

DEXTER (voiceover): I have never been more intrigued by a killer before. There may be an artist in her madness. But she must be stopped.

INT. MIAMI METRO POLICE DEPARTMENT - DAY

Debra and Batista are examining new evidence related to the case.

DEXTER (voiceover): Deb and Angel are working tirelessly on this case. I have to find the Blood Countess first... For my own reasons.

DEXTER: Hey, Deb, you found any connection between the victims?

DEBRA: Weird thing is, there's no connection. None that we've found so far. But we're working on it.

Dexter nods and walks away, deep in thought.

INT. DEXTER'S APARTMENT - NIGHT

Dexter is preparing a kill room, this time more intricate than usual. His tools are laid out, ready for use.

DEXTER (voiceover): The Blood Countess has eluded me for too long. Tonight, I take control. What a fitting end, don't you think? The hunter becomes the hunted.

Dexter steps out of his apartment and begins his night.

Dexter's Next Pursuit

INT. BLOOD SPLATTER LAB - DAY

DEXTER MORGAN, an experienced blood spatter analyst, is busy studying various blood patterns on a set of pictures.

DEXTER (V.O.):
Another day, another chance to hunt down the monsters hiding behind the mask of humanity.

DEBRA MORGAN, a homicide detective and Dexter's sister, enters.

DEBRA:
Hey, Dex. Did you check out the new case I dropped on your desk?

DEXTER:
Just finishing up here. What do we have this time?

DEBRA:
A serial killer. Stuffs his victims with sand, calls himself 'The Beachcomber.'

Dexter smirks.

DEXTER (V.O.):
Creative.

CUT TO:

INT. MIAMI-METRO HOMICIDE - DAY

The team gathers around to discuss the new case.

MARIA LAGUERTA:
Alright, everyone, listen up. Two weeks ago, someone found a dead body washed up at the beach. Turns out he was a big-time drug dealer.

ANGEL BATISTA:
So, maybe it was the competition?

LAGUERTA:
Could be. But last night, another body washed up. A known rapist with the same M.O.
The team exchanges concerned glances.

LAGUERTA (CONT'D):
Meet your new priority: The Beachcomber.

VINCE MASUKA, the eccentric forensic scientist, chimes in.

MASUKA:
You could say he's really... making waves in Miami.

The team groans behind some chuckles.

DEBRA:
Alright, let's split up and start looking for connections between the victims.

CUT TO:

INT. DEXTER'S APARTMENT - NIGHT

Dexter conducts his own research, analyzing The Beachcomber's victims.

DEXTER (V.O.):
My Dark Passenger is intrigued. Why go through the trouble of stuffing them with sand?

As Dexter digs deeper, he finds a link between the victims.

DEXTER (V.O.) (CONT'D):
Could it be so simple? Both victims were on trial for their crimes, and both were acquitted on a technicality.

CUT TO:

INT. BLOOD SPLATTER LAB - DAY

Dexter shares his findings with Debra.

DEXTER:
Each of the victims likely had a lawyer who got them off. I found out who it was. His name is Arthur Thompson.

DEBRA:
Great work, Dex. I'll look into him, see if there are any other connections we can find.

Dexter nods.

DEXTER (V.O.):
The killer is trying to clean up the streets in his own twisted way. My Dark Passenger is eager to meet him...

Dexter: Dark Discoveries

            INT. DEXTER'S APARTMENT - NIGHT

Dexter (V.O.): Sometimes, we need to understand the darkness within to control the beast that lies in our hearts.

Dexter is looking at a picture of his late sister, Deb, as he contemplates his next move. He pulls out his phone and dials a number.

DEXTER: Hey, it's me. I need to talk to you about something. Can you meet me at my apartment in 30 minutes?

INT. ANGEL'S OFFICE - NIGHT

Angel is looking at several photos of crime scenes with gruesome murders. His phone rings.

ANGEL: Hello? Dexter?
(pause)
ANGEL: Sure, I'll be there.

EXT. POLICE STATION - NIGHT

Angel walks out of the police station, gets into his car and drives off.

INT. DEXTER'S APARTMENT - LATER

Dexter opens the door for Angel, who enters the apartment.

DEXTER: I appreciate you coming on such short notice.

ANGEL: No problem, Dexter. What's going on?

DEXTER: I think I found a lead on our new killer. The one they call The Coveter.

ANGEL: Really? I haven't had any luck on my end. What did you find?

Dexter shows Angel some pictures of the crime scenes, focusing on a specific detail.

DEXTER: Look at the victims' faces. Carefully. Notice anything?

ANGEL: The expression on their faces... Fear? But also, admiration?
(beat)
Oh God.
(pack)
DEXTER: Right. It seems The Coveter is targeting those with hidden dark secrets. And his method of killing involves forcing them to face their secret before ultimately murdering them.

ANGEL: This is... sick. How did you make this connection?

DEXTER: One of the victims worked at the morgue. I recognized him. It got me thinking...

Suddenly, Dexter's phone rings. It's Masuka.

MASUKA: Dexter, got a fresh one for you. Warehouse near the docks.

DEXTER: I'm on my way.

EXT. WAREHOUSE NEAR THE DOCKS - NIGHT

Dexter and Angel arrive at the scene, which is swarming with police. Masuka is waiting for them.

MASUKA: Another one, huh? Have a look at this, Dex.

Dexter examines the body, struck by the grotesque scene. The victim is positioned in a chair, hands tied, and horror painted on his face.

DEXTER: (V.O.) Just like the others... The Coveter is getting bolder.

Dexter collects samples and scrutinizes the scene. In the corner, he spots a small, seemingly overlooked detail - a mirror fragment with something written on it.
The writing is barely visible.

He picks it up and reads: 'Face the darkness, embrace the purity.'

Dexter's eyes widen as he looks up and locks eyes with Angel.

DEXTER: Angel... I think I've found our killer's message.

Dexter: The Hunter's Back

INT. MIAMI METRO POLICE DEPARTMENT - NIGHT

Dexter is working on a blood spatter analysis at his lab station. Deb enters, looking agitated.

DEB
Jesus, Dex, another dead body showed up. What the fuck is going on in this city?

DEXTER
(sarcastically)
I don't know, Deb. I guess the bad guys didn't get the memo.

DEB
Funny. Anyway, Captain LaGuerta wants to see everyone in the briefing room. Apparently, this one is different.

INT. BRIEFING ROOM - MOMENTS LATER

CAPTAIN LAGUERTA
(serious)
We have a situation on our hands. A body was found in an abandoned warehouse, and it looks like the work of none other than The Hunter.

The team looks shocked.

ANGEL
You mean the serial killer that we never caught? The one who skipped town a few years ago?

CAPTAIN LAGUERTA
Exactly. He's back, and we need to catch him before he kills again.

DEXTER
(times have changed)
I thought he was dead. I was so sure of it.

CAPTAIN LAGUERTA
Well, we were all wrong.

(to the team)
Everyone, make this your top priority. I want this bastard found.

EXT. ABANDONED WAREHOUSE - NIGHT

Dexter and the team arrive at the crime scene. There's a mutilated body hanging from the ceiling.

DEXTER
(narrating)
The Hunter's back, and he's showing off. This is not just a kill, it's a message.

DEB
(revolting)
God, this is messed up. I think I'm gonna be sick.

DEXTER
(agreeing)
It is absolutely disgusting, but it's important for us to examine the killer's work. There might be something useful we can use to identify him.

LATER - CRIME SCENE

Dexter finds a small, significant clue.

DEXTER
Deb, take a look at this.

DEB
(looking at the clue)
What am I looking at?

DEXTER
This wasn't here on his previous victims. It's like he's deliberately leaving breadcrumbs behind. He's taunting us.

DEB
Well, let's show this psycho that we're not playing his sick games.

INT. DEXTER'S APARTMENT - NIGHT

Dexter is reviewing case files and retracing The Hunter's pattern.

DEXTER
(narrating)
The Hunter knows we're on his trail. I need to catch him and put an end to his macabre exhibition, once and for all.

INT. MIAMI METRO POLICE DEPARTMENT - DAY

The team is hard at work, searching for any leads on The Hunter's location.

CAPTAIN LAGUERTA
Deborah, any progress on those security cameras?

DEB
No, nothing yet. It's like this guy is a ghost.

Dexter gazes out the window, noticing a strange figure hiding in the shadows.

DEXTER
(narrating)
A ghost, indeed.

He decides to follow the figure.

Dexter: The New Case

            INT. HOMICIDE DEPARTMENT – NIGHT

The Miami Metro Homicide Department is busy with a new case.

DEXTER (V.O.): Another day, another kill. The city is full of predators, and it needs someone to clean their mess.

LIEUTENANT MARIA LAGUERTA walks up with a big file.

LAGUERTA: Dexter, we got a big case for you!

DEXTER: What do we have this time?

LAGUERTA: A dismembered body was found in room 310 at the Bayshore Inn. It's a nasty scene.

DEXTER: Interesting, I'll check it out.

EXT. BAYSHORE INN – NIGHT

DEBRA MORGAN stands outside the room.

DEBRA: Hey, Dex. They've already removed the body, but you should see this.

INT. BAYSHORE INN – ROOM 310 – NIGHT

DEXTER examines the dismembered limbs and a large bloodstained message on the wall.

DEXTER: The killer left a message, "The balance must be kept." What does that mean?

DEBRA: I've never seen one like this before.

DEXTER (V.O.): There are no fingerprints or hair, which means the killer was careful. This predator knows what he's doing.

EXT. DEXTER'S APARTMENT – NIGHT

Dexter returns home, and his girlfriend RITA is over. They sit on the couch eating dinner.

DEXTER: Interesting case today.

RITA: You said that every day.

DEXTER (V.O.): If she only knew my secret.

INT. BAYSHORE INN – ROOM 310 – NIGHT

Dexter is examining the crime scene. Suddenly, his cellphone RINGS.

DEXTER: Hello?

MYSTERIOUS VOICE: I saw what you did.

DEXTER: Who is this?

MYSTERIOUS VOICE: Doesn't matter, but know this: your secret is safe for now, but the game has just begun.

The call ends.

DEXTER (V.O.): This just got personal.
